First Class Fishing

If Lake Diefenbaker is famous for one thing, that would be its first-class fishing. World Records have been pulled out of these waters; the fishing really is next to none! Species such as trout, walleye, northern pike and perch move throughout the waters. Every year thousands of fishermen toss their hooks in the water hoping to snag the big one. Relax while fishing at Lake Diefenbaker, enjoy a shore lunch and swap stories with new friends about fish that practically jump into your boat - all in breathtaking natural surroundings. Saskatchewan is home to some of the best competitive fishing events in Canada. Check out the Annual Lake Diefenbaker Walleye Classic which is held in May and the Saskatchewan Landing International held in July. Several other local fishing derbies are organized throughout the year, so whether it is in the boat under the hot July sun, or huddled around a hole in an ice-fishing shack, the big catch is waiting for you!

A whole new world of adventure awaits once the snow falls and the lake freezes over. Ice fishing is not just for those who can't get enough of the sport; it is also a great pastime for people looking for a little quiet time. These tournaments offer exciting competition, large cash prizes and a combination of added activities to make the event fun for everyone.

The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority has information on water releases from the dam which may be of interest to people using the river for canoeing etc. To visit their site click here
